Introducing Registered Dietitian Emily Dunkley!
We are so excited to announce the newest Registered Dietitian to our team, Emily Dunkley, MS, RDN, LDN!
Emily has worked in private practice within a functional nutrition framework prior to HVN.
She is passionate about being a weight-inclusive provider and fits right into our group!
1. Tell us a little about your journey to becoming an RD.
I first became interested in dietetics when a close family member began struggling with an eating disorder. This passion was reignited when I took my first nutrition course at Merrimack, and I've been chasing it ever since! I worked in-patient briefly, and immediately knew that I wanted to spend more time with my patients working on their relationship to food and body as opposed to just giving them a cookie-cutter eating plan.
2. Where did you work before coming to HVN?
I was the lead RDN at a primary care office for the start of my career, then I began working with a functional private practice. I found Happy Valley while looking for a more body-positive dietetic practice and feel right at home!
3. Why is being an anti-diet/weight inclusive provider important to you?
There is SO much weight bias and toxic diet rules rampant in today's culture. Even for those who feel comfortable and confident in their food choices, it can be confusing and frustrating! I want to be a safe-space for my patients to explore what a healthy relationship to food and body means to them, as well as a source of reliable science-based information.
4. Who is your ideal client? What are your specialities?
Anyone who is looking to improve their relationship to food and body or learn a bit more about fueling their body is someone that I would want to work with!
While I do not have any set specialties at this time, I have worked with many chronic conditions (like diabetes, heart disease, cholesterol, ext.). I hope to specialize more in intuitive eating!
5. What do you like to do for fun?
I have many 'old-lady' hobbies that I absolutely love, including crocheting, reading, puzzles, and birding. My family and I do a lot of outdoor activities as well including camping and hiking. I have three pets at home, and a young daughter, so I'm always busy with something!!
Emily is available for telehealth appointments for children through adults and has availability now! You can read more about her story there AND book a free clarity call with Emily.
