Welcome Steve Oram, RD to Happy Valley Nutrition!

Steve Oram, RDN, LDN (he/him)

We are BEYOND excited to announce the newest dietitian on our team, Steve Oram!

Steve (he/him) practices from a person-centered, weight-neutral, fat-positive, all-foods-fit approach.

Like always, we asked Steve some questions so you can get to know him a bit better.

Tell us a little about your journey to becoming an RD

My journey to becoming an RD has been a long learning experience! I became interested in nutrition and dietetics around middle school. I first became aware of my body and diet culture/weight stigma around this age through family, teachers, and TV shows. I was also exposed to family members experiencing medical diagnoses and wanted to be able to help through food and nutrition. After graduating from Framingham State University in 2018, I worked for a while in a rehabilitation hospital and nursing home as a diet aide/technician as I applied to my dietetic internship. My dietetic internship with Wellness Workdays expanded my experience and practice in the many different areas a dietitian might work. After many years of school, internships, and studying I successfully passed the exam!

Where did you work before coming to HVN?

Before working for Happy Valley Nutrition, I worked as an outpatient dietitian for Whittier Street Health Center in Roxbury, MA. I was able to work with so many folks experiencing various medical diagnoses, across all ages and from diverse cultural backgrounds. Prior to that, I worked as a nutrition educator for UMASS Extension teaching nutrition education to youth preK-12th grade and for adults in public housing sites.

Why is being an anti-diet/weight inclusive provider important to you?

Being an anti-diet/weight inclusive provider is important to me because it allows me to provide compassionate care that is person-centered and refuses to use shame or oppression in any way. I am committed to the weight inclusive paradigm and I am so excited to help clients explore this world, find community, and learn and grow together.

Who is your ideal client?

I am a relatively new RD and I am open and happy to work with anyone who feels comfortable working with me. I have experience and enjoy working with folks with disordered eating, diabetes, PCOS, IBS, food insecurity, hypertension, and high cholesterol. I am also passionate about working with folks who experience chronic pain or illness.

What do you like to do for fun?

My favorite thing in life is spending time with the people I love. If that time can be spent in nature, on a bike, or at the beach, even better! I find so much joy in making collage art, seeing live music, and trying new foods!

YES! I want to work with Steve!

PS. Cara and I were guests on the WHMP Western MA Business Show last week. We loved going to the radio station and feeling very cool recording there. Check out our interview here!
